Your business name is crucial because it plays an important role in your brand’s perception. A catchy name can help you stand out in an oversaturated market. First impressions are very important; that’s why the powerful impact achievable by trendy business names is the key to branding success. Your business name has a lot of influence. You want your business name to be able to create a specific idea of what you do when people hear it.

Thinking of a name for your startup is one of the most important steps and you really can’t ignore it. Nobody is pushing you; take your time until you find a name your business deserves. Here is a list of some trendy business names that can help your startup stand out.

Learn from examples

Today, we are surrounded by so many brands. Everything you pick up or look at has a brand and business name. Some of brands are with us for many decades and all of them have some distinctive characteristics. Great startup names are original.

If you are offering something unique, an original name would be a great pick. Try to go with a memorable and short name. You want your name to stick with a person and to sound good when pronounced. Names that describe the business are also common among the successful ones, think of Hotmail, for instance.

Create something totally new

Many startups that are successful came up with a new word for their name. Don’t be afraid to invent your own word. You can always brainstorm with you friends and colleagues. The more comfortable way is to play with words. Write down the root words you want to play with. These should be literal and they should represent the main characteristics of your business.

Add names, phrases, feelings and objects, then write down combinations that cross your mind. This way, you can create something meaningful, original and trendy. On top of that, you will have a greater chance of such a domain name being available, along with social media pages. This is also good for the business registry database of the country your business is situated in.

Another great way to come by a trendy name is by permuting words that you have previously written. Combinations of a noun and a verb, or two nouns, can result in a great startup name. This is the most common way modern startups name their businesses (Facebook, Foursquare, Timehop, etc.).

Adding a number in your startup’s name can also be a great idea. Keep in mind that the number should relate to the root word you had previously picked. This way, you will get a powerful and meaningful name for your business.

Reach out for inspiration

There are many ways to find that missing piece of information that can spark a new idea for your startup name. Look for keyword associations in pop culture. Think about products and services while looking at books, art, movies or song titles.

Take some of your words and google them. The results that come up may help inspire you. On top of that, you will see if your idea is already taken.

You can always try starting backwards. Write down words that you expect your customers to associate with your business. Look for these words in the thesaurus. By doing this, you can find out more colorful and accurate words for your startup name that describe your startup even better than the names you originally came up with.

Take your time

Keep in mind that the market is oversaturated and that many of the names you come up with may already be taken. It might be a good time to take a break. Shift your thinking from this pattern. Breaks create a space for energy and creativity. Come back refreshed and the right name can come up in moments when you least expect it.

Personalize it

You know that names are personal and can bring up strong emotions. Consider how your future customers can relate to the name you have picked. You can always keep a few names as options. Ask neighbors, friends and family to describe what they think and feel when you present them with an idea. Give advantage to the ones that produce the desired reactions.

Be careful with trends

Having a trendy name can seem like a great idea, but be careful; you are walking on unexplored grounds. If you want to name your company by using some trendy words, you might create problems in the future, when the word you used fades out and becomes obsolete. This especially applies to IT startups, since technology and software evolve so fast.

Make your choice

The process of coming up with a trendy name for your startup can take long, so it’s important to set up a deadline. Research has shown that people are more likely to make a decision if they are presented with a deadline right from the start. You should understand that you are building a business, and naming is only one of the many tasks you need to do in order to succeed.

As you can see, there are some fantastic ideas for your startup name that can both make you stand out and build an identity of an entire brand. This is why you need to handle the naming process properly. Pay a lot of attention and spend some time on it. Keep in mind that you need a name that can expand and grow as your business grows. You can always go online and search for ideas that can help you come up with your own unique twist.

Finding a Great Business Name for Your Industry

June 9, 2017 10:01 pm | By emjey guzman

There are all sorts of techniques for discovering the ideal business name or domain name for your company. Owners and entrepreneurs need to remember that naming methods vary from industry to industry because of the inherent differences between market segments. For example, financial business names tend to have a more conservative connotation compared to names in the entertainment or art markets. People searching for a CPA or tax consultant are drawn to names that emphasize experience and solidity. On the other hand, to continue our example, consumers shopping for trendy artworks or movie DVDs respond better to catchy, clever domain names. It helps to consider your industry and its typical customers before choosing a domain name or business name. Here’s... Read more →

Cute, Catchy, or Cool – Getting Business Names that Match your Branding

June 5, 2017 6:49 pm | By emjey guzman

One of the keys to establishing brand identity is coming up with a domain name or business name that is catchy, cool, trendy, cute or creative. Consumers and shoppers, whether online or at brick-and-mortar retail locations, remember names that are modern-sounding or have a unique twist to them. Psychologists say that’s why it’s so easy for TV and radio audiences to recall clever, creative jingles decades later. Is there anyone over the age of 50 who can’t finish the phrase, “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh…”? Unless you’ve lived under a log in the forest for a half-century, you know the rest of that famous Alka-Seltzer line. It worked because it was clever, funny and creative. The Energizer Bunny ads worked... Read more →

Domain Clearance and Due Diligence

Conducting a Domain Clearance Checking the history and backlink profile of a domain should be the first step before purchasing a domain followed by investigating the trademark status of a domain. I’m putting it first because checking the domain history is fast so you are wasting less time if the result is something you don’t want to fool with. The first step is to check a cache service such as Way Back Machine that captures still images of websites at various points in time. Typically it is best on homepages, but it will frequently have interior pages as well. Really you just want to exclude notably spammy uses such as porn, steroids, or make money type sites. Ideally, you’d see... Read more →
